How a Professional PU Sports Flooring System Is Built
A high-performance sports floor is only as reliable as the system beneath it.
Subfloor Preparation
Every installation begins with a thorough assessment of the existing substrate, including moisture inspection and surface preparation. A self-leveling subfloor compound is then applied to create a stable, level and properly prepared base. The compound is allowed to undergo a 3-day curing period before the next stage of the system is installed.
Proper preparation and curing are critical to achieving a stable base and a durable, crack-resistant finish.
Rubber Shock-Absorption Layer
The rubber mat forms the heart of the system, providing essential elasticity and shock absorption for sports activities. This resilient layer helps reduce the impact transmitted through the playing surface and contributes to the overall performance and comfort of the floor during movement and high-impact activity.
Pore-Filler Application
The rubber base is treated with a specialist pore-filler applied in two passes. This process seals the surface and helps eliminate irregularities, creating a smooth and uniform foundation for the PU layers that follow. The result is a seamless system with no joints between individual surface sections.
Polyurethane (PU) Wearing Layer
The polyurethane layer forms the primary seamless wearing surface of the system. Applied over the prepared and sealed base, it creates a smooth, uniform playing surface designed to provide consistent surface characteristics for movement and sporting activity.
Double-Layer Protective Top Coat
The final stage is a two-layer Top Coat system that provides an additional protective barrier against intensive use and everyday wear. The selected top coat can also provide resistance to UV exposure, helping maintain the appearance and performance of the finished surface in demanding environments such as those found across the GCC.
